The Tangalle Tourism and Trade Association was founded in 1990 as an unregistered association. The Association was founded to link business together and offer members strength in numbers. This helped business to combat the police harassment, happening at the time, and to give business access to services, like the ability to get a liquor licence. The Association was created to help people work together to make things better.   The Tangalle Tourism and Trade Association was officially registered in 2008 as Non-governmental organization.  The Association primary function today is to work to make the area better accessible and attractive to tourists.
